Microlinks are the new go to healthy hair extensions for black women. But, what’s the difference between I-Tips vs Wefts I get this question all the time. Even though the term Microlink is interchangeable between the two. Here’s a breakdown of the two most popular techniques.
I-Tips are strands of hair glued together at the tip like a shoe string with kertain. And attach to strains of hair using a microbead.
- Best for medium to thick hair, at least 10” long, healthy hair and edges.
- Longevity - ITIPS Extension: Last up to 12 weeks
- Hair Prep - Requires a Silk Press | Unless wearing in natural state
- Relaxed Hair - You can wear with relaxed hair, but you cannot get touch-ups while installed.
- Hair Extension Amount - 150-200 I-Tips average | 250-300 for really full hair.
- Benefits, healthy hair growth when properly maintained.
- Maintenance is required.
- Cost - $900 - $2500, includes hair.
- Timeframe - 6-8 hours
MicroLinks are Wefted hair that is attached by weaving strains of hair through the Weft and securing it with a microbead.
- Best for fine to medium hair and to cover trouble areas while being restored.
- Longevity - Microlink Wefts: Last up to 8-12 weeks, 4 weeks tightening
- Hair Prep - Requires a Silk Press | Unless wearing in natural state
- Relaxed Hair - You can wear with relaxed hair, but you cannot get touch-ups while installed.
- Hair Extension Amount - 1-2 Bundles of hair depending on hair length and density.
